In Collaboration with Chris Rue, FNP, The Elite Nurse Practitioner is proud to FINALLY release the Comprehensive Diabetes Management Course, the Elite Nurse Practitioner guide on how to evaluate and treat your diabetic patient. This course will award 5 CEU hours and 3 of those will be pharmacology hours for those needing some CE to keep their licenses and certifications up to date. This is just another addition to our clinical line of courses and has been in development for over 2 years. We have had hundreds of requests for this, so I am excited to finally release it!

Let’s face it: nurse practitioner school poorly prepares the student to manage diabetes effectively. In reality, most schools (medical, physician assistant, etc.) poorly prepare students to manage diabetic patients. You either learn it on the go or you simply refer the patient out to endocrinology. Here is the thing though: it is NOT that hard to do once you have the tools in your toolbelt to do it! And that is what this course will help the nurse practitioner with.

It doesn’t matter what kind of practice you own, operate, or work in: YOU SEE DIABETIC PATIENTS! Therefore, if you want to be a well-rounded nurse practitioner you need to know how to effectively manage these patients. There is no point in referring the majority of your diabetic patients to endocrinology until they become insulin dependent, and with the variety of newer medications available, it has never been easier to treat the diabetic patient.

This course will provide the nurse practitioner who has little experience evaluating, diagnosing, and treating the diabetic patient the tools necessary to begin seeing these patients with confidence. It will cover everything from evaluation to the diagnosis, to the complications, to the treatment options and much more! I learned a tremendous amount of information collaborating with Chris Rue on this course, so I know you will as well!

Quick disclaimer: this course is going to predominately cover the treatment of the type 2 diabetic! We cover aspects of care with the type 1, but for the most part type 1 patients will be managed by endocrinology and usually just involves a referral from the nurse practitioner.

•  The various forms of short and long-acting insulin

• The documentation considerations on how to chart the visit of the diabetic patient.
• Post-visit education considerations.
•  Insurance billing and coding of the visit.
