How long does it take to start a functional medicine practice?

If you are starting a cash-based practice, then you can have a practice up and running within 4-6 weeks. If you are going to accept insurance though, then the credentialing process will take 3-6 months. So, it is best to get started IMMEDIATELY if you are going to take insurance.

Do I need to have a special degree or certification to start my own practice or to begin providing functional medicine services?

Outside of your nurse practitioner degree, NO! Do not be fooled into thinking you NEED a special degree or certification to provide functional medicine into your practice. Regardless, our course provides you official CEU and a certification after you complete it. This is mostly to show that you completed training in functional medicine and might be required to show your malpractice carrier.

Will this course cover marketing?

Yes! We will cover various marketing topics and techniques to help get patients through the door and increase your practices volume!

Do I need to have a physician collaborator?

Only if your state requires this! If you are in a restricted state, you can actually start a telemedicine functional medicine practice and see patients in full practice authority states which means you DON'T NEED a collaborator! The only thing you need is a license in that state! You could also provide functional medicine coaching, which does not require a license, but you do walk a fine line being a license nurse practitioner and providing coaching services. I discuss that in more depth in our Coaching/Consulting course.

I already own a practice; would this course benefit me?

Absolutely! The majority of this course focuses on the clinical components of functional medicine, therefore you should walk away from this course with actionable knowledge that you can integrate into practice immediately.

Can you explain the Comprehensive Functional Medicine Course bundle more?

This course covers the functional foundations of hormone replacement therapy but does not go into the depth you need to begin prescribing hormone replacement therapy safely and effectively. Therefore, if you do not have training specific to men’s and/or women’s hormone replacement therapy and thyroid optimization, then we recommend you take advantage of the bundle we put together as our hormone replacement therapy courses cover those concepts in greater detail as it is an additional 12+ hours of education that we could not include in The Foundational Functional Medicine Course if we wanted to keep it affordable, plus many nurse practitioners already know how to provide hormone replacement therapy services, so we did not want too much overlap in education.
